“Lon Calvin Whitfield is on of the most unique and respected musicians in the industry.  Dr. Whitfield is a fulent musician on piano, Hammond Organ, 6 string guitar, bass guitar, drums and percussions.  His musical career became official upon coming to New York to attend Brooklyn College where he majored in music and classical guitar. There he received his formal training in college while performing in clubs, churches, as well as studio sessions for such notables as Pearl Bailey, Harry Bellefonte, and Jimmy Seigler. Calvin also expanded upon his experience making a name for himself as a jazz bassist, performing with such notables as Winton Marsalis, Kenny Kirkland, and Buster Williams. While earning a living as a respected musician, Calvin was asked to sing on several off-Broadway productions such as “Sister Salvation” and “Yesterday Meets Today” making his official entrance in the music industry as a lead vocalist performing artist.”

The majority of engagements are performed as a one-man ensemble using state-of-the-art sequencing equipment. At Legacy Music Institute, we transform online music and virtual music lessons into a social experience, adding a strong group incentive to playing by ear, learning, and practicing. We have found that maximum progress is achieved through a blend of individual instruction and playing with one’s peers in bands.

Our “learn by ear” methodology transforms music into a team sport, adding healthy competition and personal interaction. Therefore, we strongly encourage all individuals to combine a regular schedule of individual lessons with our supervised band Jam Sessions, which, in turn, lead to public performances, and recording sessions. Our online lessons are recommended for any music professional beginner or advanced.
